Health and Nutrition

Health is one of the most important endowments of human lives.PANI makes efforts to help people live healthier, longer and more productive lives.

We strengthen people’s organisations so that they are able to seize the available opportunities to attain better health. The community institutions then engage continuously with the public sector services. This means that they are aware of programmes such as National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), Mid Day Meal (MDM) and Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (NBA) etcetera and their entitlements through these.

The awareness coupled with willingness ensures peoples access to primary and secondary care services. This also helps keep a check on ‘out of pocket expenditure’ on health and prevents them from entering the debt trap.

PANI has also collaborated with Department of Health & Family Welfare to increase the quality and outreach of primary health care services, in a hub and spokes model. The idea is to improve services related to reproductive health, adolescent health, child survival, sanitation and hygiene, clinical service and capacity building of community workers. Women who have emerged as leaders in various other programmes of PANI are trained to act as ‘Swasthya Sakhi’ and linked with the frontline health workers such as ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist), ANM (Auxillary Nurse Midwife), and Anganwadi workers in reaching out to vulnerable population and ensure that proper care and support are being provided.
